Welcome Principal Stevens

The Moses Lake School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Stevens as the Principal of Vanguard Academy starting the 2023-2024 school year. 

As a longtime educator, Mr. Stevens has a wealth of experience. He has supported students since 1997, when he began his career as a high school business education teacher. Formerly the principal of Othello High School, Stevens currently serves as the principal of East Valley High School in Spokane. 

As a proponent of mastery-based learning, Stevens will draw on his expertise in Career and Technical Education and deep understanding of project-based learning to lead Vanguard Academy.

Stevens has rich connections with Eastern Washington and looks forward to returning to the Columbia Basin. He graduated from Chelan High School and earned a Bachelor of Science from Central Washington University and Brigham Young University. He also earned a Master of Arts in School Administration from Central Washington University. 

Stevens enjoys spending time with his wife and six children. Beyond spending time with his family, he enjoys the outdoors, fishing, hiking, and BBQing. He is excited to relocate to Moses Lake and become involved with the community.
