Healthy Youth Survey - Information for Parents & Guardians

Posted Date: 9/16/25 (3:09 PM)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our school will be participating in the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) on Monday, October 13. Youth in Washington State have been taking the HYS since 2002. What started with only a few thousand students now includes more than 215,000 students each year.

The survey asks about:

  • How youth are doing in school and life
  • Friendships and social relationships
  • Mental health and well-being
  • Substance use
  • Risks for injury and safety
  • And more
Survey results are used by communities, districts, schools, and public health agencies to guide policies and programs that support the well-being of Washington youth. The HYS is an important way for students to have a voice in shaping the future of our state.

Participation is voluntary and appreciated. Please take time to share this information with your student, and talk together about whether they will participate.
